Description

Delicious crispy fried shrimp that are perfect for appetizers or main dishes, served with lemon wedges and your choice of dipping sauces.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon paprika
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Lemon wedges for serving
  • Chopped chives or parsley for garnish
  • Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce for dipping

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Shrimp:
    • Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
    • Season the shrimp with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to ensure even coating.
  2. Set Up Breading Stations:
    • In one bowl, add the all-purpose flour.
    • In a second bowl, beat the eggs.
    • In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
  3. Bread the Shrimp:
    • Dredge each shrimp in the flour, shaking off the excess.
    • Dip the shrimp into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess egg to drip off.
    • Coat the shrimp with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to help them adhere.
  4. Heat the Oil:
    • Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
  5. Fry the Shrimp:
    • Carefully place the breaded shrimp in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
    • Fry each batch for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
    • Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
  6. Serve:
    • Arrange the shrimp on a serving platter.
    • Garnish with chopped chives or parsley.
    • Serve with lemon wedges and your choice of dipping sauce.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, marinate the shrimp in buttermilk for 30 minutes before breading.
  • Ensure the oil is hot enough to avoid greasy shrimp.
  • Keep cooked shrimp warm in a preheated oven at 200°F (90°C) while frying remaining batches.
