Ingredients
Scale
- 1 pound large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 2 large eggs
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
- Lemon wedges for serving
- Chopped chives or parsley for garnish
- Tartar sauce or cocktail sauce for dipping
Instructions
- Prepare the Shrimp:
- Rinse the shrimp under cold water and pat dry with paper towels.
- Season the shrimp with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Mix well to ensure even coating.
- Set Up Breading Stations:
- In one bowl, add the all-purpose flour.
- In a second bowl, beat the eggs.
- In a third bowl, place the panko breadcrumbs.
- Bread the Shrimp:
- Dredge each shrimp in the flour, shaking off the excess.
- Dip the shrimp into the beaten eggs, allowing any excess egg to drip off.
- Coat the shrimp with panko breadcrumbs, pressing gently to help them adhere.
- Heat the Oil:
- Heat about 2 inches of oil in a deep skillet or pot to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry the Shrimp:
- Carefully place the breaded shrimp in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding.
- Fry each batch for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Use a slotted spoon to remove the shrimp and place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve:
- Arrange the shrimp on a serving platter.
- Garnish with chopped chives or parsley.
- Serve with lemon wedges and your choice of dipping sauce.
Notes
- For extra flavor, marinate the shrimp in buttermilk for 30 minutes before breading.
- Ensure the oil is hot enough to avoid greasy shrimp.
- Keep cooked shrimp warm in a preheated oven at 200°F (90°C) while frying remaining batches.
