Description

This delicious chocolate buttercream frosting is perfect for cakes and cupcakes.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt (can omit if using salted butter)
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream or milk

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until smooth and creamy, about 1-2 minutes.
  2. Scrape the bowl down with a rubber spatula.
  3. Add the vanilla and cream then beat for another 1-2 minutes or until light and fluffy.
  4. If the frosting is too thick, add more cream. If the frosting is too thin, add the remaining 1/2 cup powdered sugar.

Notes

  • This frosting works well on chocolate and vanilla cakes.
  • You can adjust the thickness by adding more cream or powdered sugar as needed.
