Description
This delicious chocolate buttercream frosting is perfect for cakes and cupcakes.
Ingredients

- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar, sifted
- 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/8 teaspoon salt (can omit if using salted butter)
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream or milk
Instructions
- In a large mixing bowl, beat together the butter, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, cocoa powder, and salt until smooth and creamy, about 1-2 minutes.
- Scrape the bowl down with a rubber spatula.
- Add the vanilla and cream then beat for another 1-2 minutes or until light and fluffy.
- If the frosting is too thick, add more cream. If the frosting is too thin, add the remaining 1/2 cup powdered sugar.
Notes
- This frosting works well on chocolate and vanilla cakes.
- You can adjust the thickness by adding more cream or powdered sugar as needed.
