Description

A classic sloppy joe recipe featuring ground beef in a tangy sauce served on toasted buns.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 3 minutes.
  2. Add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat if needed.
  3. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant.
  4. Add tomato sauce, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, chili powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well to combine.
  5. Reduce heat to low and simmer the mixture for 8-10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened.
  6. Spoon the sloppy joe mixture onto toasted hamburger buns and serve hot.
