Description

This savory breakfast casserole is perfect for gatherings and can be prepared the night before for an easy morning meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups bread cubes (preferably day-old or slightly stale)
  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 6 large eggs
  • 1 ½ cups whole milk
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a bundt pan or a 9×13 inch baking dish.
  2. Prepare Ingredients: Cook and crumble the breakfast sausage. Drain the excess grease. Cut bread into cubes and shred the cheddar cheese.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  4. Assemble the Casserole: Place half of the bread cubes at the bottom of the prepared pan. Layer with half of the sausage and half of the cheddar cheese. Repeat the layers with the remaining bread, sausage, and cheese.
  5. Combine: Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers, pressing down gently to make sure the bread absorbs the liquid.
  6. Bake: Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes, or until the top is golden and the center is set.
  7. Garnish: If desired, sprinkle chopped fresh parsley on top before serving.

Notes

  • For added flavor, consider adding chopped bell peppers or mushrooms to the layers.
  • If you prefer a spicier kick, use hot sausage or add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the egg mixture.
  • This casserole can be assembled the night before and baked in the morning. Just cover and refrigerate overnight.
  • Swap out cheddar for another cheese like Monterey Jack or pepper jack for different flavors.
