Description

A delicious recipe for crispy chicken pieces coated in a sweet and spicy sauce.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pieces Chicken Breast (Sliced into 1-inch pieces)
  • 1 cup Cornstarch (Key for crispy coating)
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour (Can substitute with gluten-free flour)
  • 2 large Eggs (Beaten until smooth)
  • 2 cups Canola Oil (For frying)
  • 1/2 cup Ketchup (Provides a tangy sweetness)
  • 1 tbsp Gochujang (or Chili Sauce) (Adjust amount for heat)
  • 1/4 cup Honey (Contributes to the glaze)
  • 1/4 cup Brown Sugar (Adds depth to the sauce)
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce (Opt for low-sodium if desired)
  • 2 tbsp Water (Loosens the sauce)
  • 2 cloves Garlic (Freshly minced)
  • 1 tsp Red Pepper Flakes (Optional for extra spice)
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil (Imparts nutty flavor)
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch (For thickening the sauce)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together ketchup, gochujang, honey, brown sugar, soy sauce, water, garlic, red pepper flakes, cornstarch, and sesame oil. Set aside.
  2. In one bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper. In another bowl, beat the eggs until smooth. Coat each chicken piece with eggs, then with the cornstarch mixture, letting them rest for 10 minutes.
  3. Heat canola oil in a deep frying pan to 350°F. Fry chicken in batches for about 3 minutes until golden brown and crispy. Drain excess oil on a wire rack.
  4. Discard used oil, return fried chicken to the pan, and toss with the prepared sauce until evenly coated. Serve immediately.
  5. Optional: Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

  • This recipe is perfect for those who enjoy a sweet and spicy flavor profile.
  • Let the chicken rest after coating to achieve a crispier texture.
  • Adjust the heat level of the sauce by adding more or less gochujang.
