Description
A fun and festive treat that combines the classic candy apple with a boozy twist!
Ingredients
Scale
- 3 large apples (Granny Smith recommended)
- 3 mini bottles silver tequila
- 2 cups green candy melts
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 1/2 cup water
- Green food coloring (optional, for extra vibrancy)
- Green ribbon for decoration (optional)
- Paper straws
Instructions
- Prepare the Apples: Wash and dry the apples thoroughly. Insert a paper straw into the center of each apple. Ensure they are secured tightly.
- Melt the Candy: In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the green candy melts according to the package instructions. Stir until smooth. If desired, add a drop or two of green food coloring to enhance the color.
- Coat the Apples: Dip each apple into the melted candy, twirling to coat evenly. Allow excess candy to drip back into the bowl. Set the apples on a parchment-lined baking sheet to set.
- Prepare the Candy Shell: In a saucepan over medium heat, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Stir until sugar dissolves, then allow the mixture to boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard crack stage) on a candy thermometer. Optionally, add green food coloring before reaching the desired temperature for more color depth.
- Dip the Coated Apples: Once the candy shell mixture reaches 300°F, remove from heat. Carefully dip each candy-coated apple into the hot sugar mixture, rotating to coat it evenly. Place on parchment paper to set.
- Add the Tequila: Once the apples are fully set and cool, carefully place a mini bottle of tequila upside down into the straw hole of each apple.
- Decorate: Tie a green ribbon around the straw for additional decoration, if desired.
Notes
- Ensure the candy shell mixture does not exceed 300°F or it may caramelize and turn brown.
- Test the readiness of the sugar mixture by dropping a small amount into cold water; it should form hard, brittle threads.
- Use caution when working with hot sugar to prevent burns.
- For a non-alcoholic version, omit the tequila bottle or replace it with a non-alcoholic apple cider mini bottle.
