Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- 1 ½ cups heavy cream
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon butter
Instructions
- Prepare the Cake Batter:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour three 8-inch round cake pans.
- In a mixing bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract.
- In another bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture alternately with the milk. Begin and end with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
- Bake the Cakes:
- Divide the batter evenly among the three prepared cake pans.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then turn them out onto a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the Chocolate Cream Filling:
- In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream over medium heat until it just begins to simmer.
- Remove from heat and stir in the chocolate chips and butter until smooth and glossy.
- Allow the mixture to cool to room temperature, then refrigerate until thickened (about 1 hour).
- Assemble the Cake:
- Once the cake layers are completely cool, place one layer on a serving plate.
- Spread a generous amount of chocolate cream over the top.
- Repeat with the second cake layer and more chocolate cream.
- Place the third layer on top and spread the remaining cream over the top.
Notes
- Ensure all ingredients are at room temperature for better mixing.
- Use a piping bag for the cream filling for a neater presentation.
- Chill the cake in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes before serving to allow the layers to set.
- For added flavor, consider adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to the chocolate cream filling.
