Description

A delightful and festive dessert combining layers of chocolate cake, cherries, and whipped cream, perfect for any celebration.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 chocolate cake (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup sour cherries (or sweet cherries if preferred)
  • 2 cups whipping cream
  • 100 grams dark chocolate
  • 1/2 cup Kirsch (cherry brandy) or cherry juice
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chocolate shavings for decoration

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cake: If using a homemade cake, bake your chocolate cake and allow it to cool. Cut the cake into small cubes.
  2. Cherries Preparation: Drain the cherries from their juice. Reserve some juice in a small bowl. If using Kirsch, add a few tablespoons to the reserved cherry juice for extra flavor.
  3. Whipped Cream: In a large bowl, whip the cream until soft peaks form. Add powdered sugar and vanilla extract. Continue whipping until stiff peaks form. Set aside.
  4. Assemble the Trifle: In a trifle or glass bowl, layer the ingredients. Start with a layer of chocolate cake cubes. Drizzle the cake layer with cherry juice or Kirsch mixture to moisten it. Add a layer of cherries over the cake. Spread a layer of whipped cream over the cherries. Repeat layers as needed, ending with a whipped cream layer.
  5. Topping: Decorate the top with dark chocolate shavings and a few whole cherries.

Notes

  • For added flavor, soak the cherries in Kirsch overnight.
  • Use a glass bowl for a visually appealing presentation to show the beautiful layers.
  • You can substitute Kirsch with cherry juice to make it non-alcoholic.
  • For an extra festive touch, sprinkle the top with edible glitter or small chocolate ornaments.
