Description

A rich and indulgent chocolate cupcake topped with creamy frosting, perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 34 cups powdered sugar, sifted
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake tray with paper liners.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, sift together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In another bowl, whisk together eggs, buttermilk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. Combine Mixtures: Gradually add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  5. Add Boiling Water: Carefully stir in boiling water until the batter is smooth. The batter will be thin.
  6. Fill Cupcake Liners: Pour the batter into the prepared liners, filling each about two-thirds full.
  7. Bake: Bake in preheated oven for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Cool: Allow cupcakes to cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  9. Prepare Frosting: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy. Gradually add powdered sugar, heavy cream, and vanilla extract, beating on medium speed until the frosting is creamy and smooth.
  10. Frost Cupcakes: Once the cupcakes are completely cool, frost them with the prepared frosting using a piping bag or a knife.

Notes

  • Ensure Ingredients Are at Room Temperature: This helps with even mixing and a smoother batter.
  • Use High-Quality Cocoa Powder: For a richer chocolate flavor.
  • Frosting Consistency: If the frosting is too stiff, add more cream. If too thin, add more powdered sugar until the desired consistency is reached.
  • Decorate Creatively: Top with chocolate shavings or sprinkles for an extra touch.
