Ingredients
Scale
- 1 bag frozen waffle fries (or crinkle cut)
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup cooked bacon, crumbled
- 1/2 cup sour cream
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions or chives
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup milk
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Prepare the Fries:
- Preheat your oven to the temperature indicated on the bag of frozen fries.
- Spread the waffle fries evenly on a baking sheet.
- Bake according to package instructions until they are crispy and golden brown.
- Prepare the Cheese Sauce:
- In a small saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
- Add the flour, whisking continuously for about 1 minute to form a roux.
- Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly to avoid lumps.
- Bring to a simmer and cook until the mixture thickens slightly.
- Stir in the cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, allowing them to melt completely.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Assemble the Loaded Fries:
- Once the fries are done baking, remove them from the oven.
- Pour the cheese sauce generously over the fries.
- Sprinkle the crumbled bacon evenly over the top.
- Return the fries to the oven for an additional 5 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt further.
- Finish with Toppings:
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a minute.
- Drizzle sour cream over the top.
- Garnish with sliced green onions or chives.
Notes
- For added flavor, consider sprinkling on some garlic powder or paprika before baking the fries.
- For a spicier version, add chopped jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
- Ensure the cheese sauce is smooth by whisking continuously and cooking over medium heat.
- Use freshly shredded cheese for a creamier sauce, as pre-shredded cheese may contain anti-caking agents that affect melting.
